Poetry is one of those things where you learn more about yourself as an artist than you do about the form itself.
“The fountains mingle with the river, and the rivers with the ocean, the winds of heaven mix forever, With a sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single; All things by a
law divine, in one spirit, meet and mingle. Why not I with thine?” By - Percy
You know writing Poetry is a very
interesting journey and it will make us better writers. It has always been a bit fantastical especially
Shakespeare’s Sonnets. They always seemed to be border lining on the magical
and that was so very alluring.
Poetry is known for its magic.
It expresses emotion. A lot of writing forms express emotion, but with poetry, it seems to go deeper. With such minimal writing, the words can mean anything which can make it relatable to so many people. And one person can have one perspective while another can think it means something completely different.
It plays on words and sounds. It is amazing how intricate the
words and sounds can flow in a piece of poetry. The rhythm and rhyme really make
a piece of poetry stand out. There are so
many different forms. You have a free verse, sonnets, villanelles, prose, and so
many more. Poems can rhyme or they don’t have to. But at the end of the day,
they all shine with so much magic. With any form of
writing, an author puts a piece of their soul into it. All those words come
from the heart; it is our blood and our life. Poetry really shows us this,
though. It is all because of the raw emotion put into it and exuding from it. Poetry uses
impressive elements to bring words to life as just the smallest phrase can
become a beacon of raw emotion, the smallest sound can send a chill up your
spine, and yeah goosebumps too.
Whether you are a frequent reader of poetry or not, it is still
relevant today. Though it's likely that you'll turn to poetry at some point in
your life. Most people turn to poems when they are going through a difficult
moment. Birthdays, funerals, and weddings are examples of joyous or sorrowful
occasions. At times when emotions are overwhelming and stressful, poetry can
provide a clear statement of experience. Poetry can also be used to explore the possibility of future change, bringing with it the poet's concerns and hopes.
